About
Was It Real? is an independent project from the North West of England, built for anyone who’s ever wondered whether a “70% off” sticker means anything.
Why we built it
Misleading was-prices are common, especially around Black Friday. We wanted a simple, honest answer backed by a chart of real recorded prices.
What we cover
We currently show thousands of products across many categories at UK retailers including Box, Electrical Discount UK, Euronics, Hughes, John Lewis, Lakeland, Overclockers UK, PRC Direct, Peter Tyson, Sonic Direct and Toolstation. Hundreds of models are tracked at two or more shops, so you can compare prices. We only track shops whose robots.txt allows it and whose terms we have checked; we never get around a block. We don’t track Amazon prices; each product page has a “Check on Amazon” affiliate link (#ad) that plays no part in verdicts.
Status
We started recording prices on 13 Oct 2026. Since then we have checked on 5 days, with gaps, so most products have fewer days of records than days since we started. Each product page shows exactly which days we have. Verdicts need 30 days of our own records for a product, so none have been given yet.
Figures generated from our data on 26 Oct 2026.
Who runs it
Was It Real? is run by Andrew Probert trading as Was It Real?. Contact details are on our contact page.
